Under the Sugandha Project, we have established library....

A girl named Varsha Rawat from village Sherpur Mau is 18 years of age and is pursuing her education after completing class 12. She recalls that due to work pressure at home and financial crisis her education was stopped after class 12 and she supported her mother in household chores. One day her destiny turned as she came across to meet one of the field coordinators Abdul of Sugandha project and invited her for the group meeting. When she reached the venue, she saw other adolescent girls too who had come along for the meeting. The field coordinator discussed on importance of girl child education in the meeting and formed an adolescent girl’s group in the village. The other girls selected her as a group leader. The Vatsalya selected her house as the Adolescent resource centre ARC where apart from studies various materials like board games, carrom, snake and ladder, ball, ropes and learning materials were made available. Whenever girls  get free time, the adolescent girls come up to the ARC and discuss various issues and holds meetings. At regular intervals field coordinators also visit the ARC and conducts life skill sessions which has given us new hope and confidence and higher self-esteem. These issues are gender, menstruation, nutrition, anaemia, women centric laws, helpline numbers.

After repeated meetings and motivation one day I expressed my desire for further studies to my mother and father. My parents supported my decision and helped in enrolling in ITC Sunhara Kal for a nursing course. Now I regular pursue my studies along-with visiting the ARC and motivates other girls of the community to pursue their dreams and seek opportunities to educate themselves.

During the followup in May 24 with the Varsha it was observed that three more girls have taken admission in Sunhara Kal centre after my stunning performance in that.
