Connecting the Dots: ASHAs, ANMs, and Depot Holders Unite for Family Planning

An interface meeting was held at the Urban Community Health Centre (UCHC), Aliganj, bringing together ASHAs, ANMs, and depot holders to strengthen the delivery of family planning services during Urban Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Days (UHSND). Supported by the HCL Foundation, the meeting focused on establishing a strong connection between depot holders and frontline health workers (FLWs) to ensure consistent and community-level access to contraceptive supplies. In the presence of the Medical Officer In-Charge (MOIC), a consensus was reached that ASHAs and ANMs would provide contraceptives to depot holders for free distribution in their respective communities. This initiative aims to enhance the capacity of both FLWs and depot holders in family planning counseling and reinforce their roles within public health services. The meeting resulted in a collective agreement that depot holders will not only distribute contraceptives but also support in bringing eligible couples to UHSND sessions, where ANMs and ASHAs will offer counseling and services. Encouragingly, some communities have already implemented this system, marking a significant step toward improved accessibility and outreach in family planning.
