Celebrating World Contraception Day: Empowering Urban Slum Communities
As part of the “Aao Batein Karein” Project, supported by the HCL Foundation, an engaging event was organized in three urban slum communities—Katra Paltan, Ahibaranpur, and Vinayak Puram—of Lucknow to celebrate World Contraception Day. The event focused on raising awareness about the importance of family planning, the empowerment that comes with having contraceptive choices, increasing male involvement in family planning, and dispelling common myths and misconceptions related to contraception. Through interactive discussions and community participation, the initiative successfully encouraged informed decision-making and highlighted women’s reproductive rights. It helped reduce the unmet need for contraception by promoting modern methods and created space for men to actively support and engage in family planning. Overall, the event strengthened community understanding of the benefits of contraception and emphasized the value of choice, access, and shared responsibility in reproductive health.
