Our Chief Functionary

Dr Neelam Singh

Dr. Neelam Singh serves as the Chief Functionary of VATSALYA. She is a medical practitioner (gynaecologist) with an established practice of 30 years and a social entrepreneur who was inspired to establish VATSALYA after encountering the issue of gender-biased sex-selective elimination in her early medical career. As Chief Functionary, Dr. Singh provides strategic direction, oversees program implementation, and engages in fundraising activities.

In addition, she has also served as the President of UPVAN Network for two consecutive terms and been an active member of government committees including the National Inspection & Monitoring Committee under the PCPNDT Act, Ministry of HFW, Government of India, and the National Task Force for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Ministry of WCD, Government of India. Furthermore, she has shared her knowledge and insights as a guest faculty at prestigious institutions such as the National Judicial Academy in Bhopal and the Lal Bahadur Shashtri National Academy (IAS) in Mussoorie.

She has also authored several papers published in national and international journals, and has expertise in public health programs, including health, nutrition, girls' and women's issues, leadership, empowerment, education, and WASH.

In her thoughts on the current state of affairs, Dr. Singh emphasizes the importance of collective action by governments and communities to address the challenges threatening public health. She believes that civil society organizations can have a profound impact on health-related issues.
